Robert provides assistance with cross-border projects and transactions, for UK and international companies, providing a combination of project management, strategic guidance and tactical experience, across a broad range of industries. 

In particular, Robert has had extensive experience advising on cross border M&A, private equity, joint ventures, debt finance, capital markets, e-commerce financing, with a further emphasis on general and financial business matters, for clients in over 100 countries, gained through a career as an English Solicitor spanning 50 years.

Robert is a member of the Steering Committee of LNI (Legal Network International) a global network of law firms which has circa 60 member firms in more than 60 countries. Hatstone is the representative firm of LNI in BVI, Jersey, and Panama. 

Robert qualified in 1974 at Tarlo Lyons (now Blake Morgan) in London, where he became a partner. After moving to Travers Smith, in 1978 he co-founded Rakisons (now the London office of US firm, Steptoe LLP). 

He became a partner in the London offices of US law firms Morgan Lewis & Bockius (1992-1998) and McDermott Will & Emery (1998-2002), before co-founding Grundberg Mocatta Rakison. 

GMR became the London office of well-known US firm, McGuireWoods in 2009. Robert served on MW’s Board of Partners, was co-chair of MW’s Private Equity Industry Team, and was a Governing Partner/Designated Member of MW’s London office, before retiring from MW in 2018.
